Overview
Comhairle nan Eilean Siar is undertaking a consultation on an amended Scheme for the Establishment of Community Councils and associated governance documents.
Why We Are Consulting
In accordance with the requirements of section 53 of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973 the Comhairle is required to invite comments seeking the views of the public and Community Councils in relation to an amended Scheme and associated governance documents.
The main changes to the Scheme relate to increasing the minimum the minimum number of valid nominations to establish a Community Council from four to six, introducing a mechanism to fill casual vacancies through co-option and holding the AGM in May or June each year.

All responses should be made by 5.00pm on Monday 21 August 2023. The final proposals will be reported to Policy and Resources Committee on 20 September 2023.
