Draft Gaelic Language Plan 2022-2027

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar has prepared a draft of its new Gaelic Language Plan for 2022-2027, in terms of Section 3 of the Gaelic Language (Scotland) Act 2005.

This draft Plan aims to ensure that Gaelic has a sustainable future in the Western Isles as a living, community language, and cultural and economic asset. The draft Plan also supports the objectives set out in Bòrd na Gàidhlig's National Gaelic Language Plan, namely to arrest the decline, and to plan for the growth, in the number of Gaelic speakers in Scotland.

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar's draft Gaelic Plan for 2022-2027 is the fourth iteration of its Gaelic Plan, the Comhairle having undertaken an extensive review of the targets, outcomes and progress of the Plan for 2019-2022.

The draft Plan is available in Gaelic and English here

Responses are invited from the public, Gaelic, and other organisations on the draft Plan as part of a six-week public consultation process, which comes to an end at 5pm on Friday 11 November. All views and recommendations in terms of the draft Plan are welcome.
