Population Decline

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar has called for more action at a national level to reverse the projected population decline in the Outer Hebrides in years to come. The 2014 based projections predict a severe decline in the population of the Outer Hebrides of 13.7%. This is more severe  than the previous projections which indicated a decrease of 11.3%. The population of the Outer Hebrides is projected to decrease from 27,250 in 2014 to 23,515 in 2039.

Outer Hebrides Creative & Cultural Industries Strategy

Much of the activity highlighted in the Creative & Cultural Industries Strategy is ongoing and the document still bears considerable relevance, however as the defined Strategy period of 2012 - 15 has expired, it is now appropriate to revisit, review and refresh its content for the coming three year period, 2017 to 2020.

New Harris Tweed marks return of Mòd to Western Isles

A special edition tweed has been created to mark the return of the Royal National Mòd to the Western Isles. Scotland's biggest Gaelic cultural festival was last held on the islands in 2011. This year's Mòd in Stornoway, on Lewis, starts on Friday 14th and runs until 22 October. Image © Harris tweedHebrides.
