  • National Volunteers Week 1st - 7th June - Toolkit

    The 1st June is the start of national Volunteers Week.

    As a mark of respect for the community in Barra, Volunteer Centre Western Isles has changed the planned celebrations for Volunteers Week and is instead encouraging you to say thank you to your volunteers to recognise the important contribution they make and all the benefits they bring to our islands.

     

     
  • Complaint Not Upheld

    The Commissioner for Ethical Standards in Public Life in Scotland has not upheld a complaint against 7 councillors or former Councillors on Comhairle nan Eilean Siar in connection with a decision not to open Lewis Sports Centre on a Sunday.

     
  • Apprenticeship Programme

    The Comhairle was scheduled to advertise the 2017 apprenticeship programme this week and to commence community meetings throughout the Western Isles beginning the week of the 5 June 2017.

    Given recent events it has been decided to postpone both the recruitment and the meetings until further notice. 

     
  • Failte Cafe - Soup and a Song!

    Sweet Potato and Vegetable soup on the menu! 

    There will be a plant stall run by our Grow To Work volunteers! 

    We are also going to top it off by having some live music!

    In a letter sent last week to Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester, Comhairle Convener, Norman A MacDonald, said:

    "People throughout the Outer Hebrides were deeply saddened and shocked to hear about the terrible event in Manchester on the evening of Monday 22nd May 2017.
