Horshader Community Development Trust
The first community owned wind turbine in the Western Isles was officially opened Friday, 19 October 2012. The turbine is operated and managed by Risort Power Generation Ltd, being the trading arm of Horshader Community Development Trust. The trust is owned by the membership, which is open to all permanent residents over 18 years of age or tenants of crofts, (who are resident elsewhere on Lewis), within the villages of South Shawbost, Dalbeag and Dalmore. This project is unique as all the surplus income will be gifted to the Trust for community benefit.
