Tribute to former North Lochs Councillor

Tribute has been paid to former North Lochs Councillor Malcolm Dan Macleod who died recently at the age of ninety one.

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar Convener, Councillor Kenneth Macleod said:

" It was with sadness that we learned of the passing of Calum Dan Macleod.  Mr Macleod was Councillor for the North Lochs Ward from 1978 to 1982 at a time when the new authority was making great strides to improving the lot of the communities of the Western Isles.  Calum Dan was very much part of that period of innovation, and he was a dedicated Councillor for the people of North Lochs. We extend our condolences to Calum Dan's widow Eva, his daughter and three sons, and the wider family".

Mr Macleod had a successful Merchant Navy career which saw him progress to being Chief Engineer of the old Loch Seaforth at the age of 27.  His later career saw him for many years being the Chief Operating Officer for Hydro Electrics' Battery Point Power Station at Stornoway.  He was well known and well liked across the island.
