Board Member appointment: Western Isles NHS Board

NHS Western Isles is responsible for the protection and the improvement of its population's health and for the delivery of frontline healthcare services.  The Board's role is to deliver high quality, person centred care and to improve the health and wellbeing of the people of the Western Isles. In doing so, NHS Western Isles provides a comprehensive range of range of acute, mental health, primary and community services across locations stretching from the Butt in the North part of the Isle of Lewis to Barra in the Southern part of the chain of islands.

As a non-executive member of this Board, you will have a key role in supporting the delivery of the organisation's strategic direction in addition to contributing to scrutinising performance, and discharging governance and accountability functions. You will be offered the training you need to make a strong contribution. 

 

Remuneration and time commitment:Remuneration is £8,276 per annum (non-pensionable) for a time commitment of one day per week. Reasonable expenses incurred will be reimbursed. 

 

Location:  The meetings for Western Isles NHS Boardarenormally held in Stornoway, but may on occasion be held elsewhere in the NHS Board area. In recent times, meetings have been held virtually. Going forward, the expectation is that Board and Governance Committee meetings will be held by blending virtual and physical meetings, although a physical presence will be required at times in order to be able to carry out the full range of Board activities,

 

Interviews: Interviews will be held on Wednesday 8 November 2023 may be held in person or via Teams.

 

Skills/Experience Required

  • Finance experience

 In addition to the values and priority criterion highlighted above, you will need to live in the Western Isles and be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Appreciation of the variety of challenges in the delivery of health and care services in the Western Isles
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to contribute effectively to the decision making of the Board;

 You do not need to be an expert in health or have previous experience of being on a Board. We are looking for people who have the capacity and commitment to develop their skills and to learn new skills they may require.
