Members Sought for Mobility and Access Committee for Scotland

Scottish Government ministers are looking to appoint up to four new members to the Mobility and Access Committee for Scotland.

The Mobility and Access Committee for Scotland (MACS) was set up under the Transport (Scotland) Act 2001 to advise Scottish Ministers on the barriers and challenges for disabled people in relation to transport.

With a view to representing issues specific to island and rural communities, the Scottish Government has stated a preference for at least two of the new members being island residents or have experience of living on Scottish islands.

The Scottish Government has also indicated that members must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the travel and transport issues for disabled people, preferably drawn from personal lived experience.

Cllr Uisdean Robertson, Chair of Transportation and Infrastructure, said: "Individuals in the Western Isles with disabilities, their family members, carers and travel partners face specific challenges in travel to mainland Scotland. It is vital that the Scottish Government hear of these specific challenges, and I would encourage any individual who meets the specified criteria to apply to join MACS."

Further information and details of how to apply is available at the  Scottish Government website
