Dìleab an t-Siorraidh
30 June 2023 at 12:13:42
The Dìleab an t-Siorraidh trust was established in 2018 when Mr. Colin Scott Mackenzie provided £40,000 to encourage Primary 7 pupils in Lewis and Harris schools to speak Gàidhlig. Since then, an annual competition is held during which pupils engage in research or interviews, deliver a speech and answer questions to an on-line panel of judges.
As well as enhancing research, interview, listening, talking and presenting skills, this affords them an excellent opportunity to develop their confidence and multi-media skills.
As so much work had been done in schools this session on the Dìleab project, the theme of emigration was selected for Dìleab an t-Siorraidh. This worked well from the judges' perspective as the pupils' knowledge of the topic ensured that presentations were of a very high standard.
To ensure equity for pupils from Uist and Barra, Dìleab an
t-Siorraidh Trust approached Bòrd na Gàidhlig for support and
Dìleab mu Dheas was established with the same topics and rules as
Dìleab an t-Siorraidh.
We congratulate the pupils who were successful in each section of
the competitions and thank them, their teachers and all who
provided support. Special thanks to Sheriff Colin Scott Mackenzie
and Bòrd na Gàidhlig for financial assistance.
