3G Facility Reopened

Convener of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, Cllr Kenneth Macleod officially reopened Smith Avenue 3G Pitch (Stornoway) on Friday 12th May, following the completion of refurbishments.

The resurfacing project carried out by contractor Sportex was made possible by £200,000 of funding by the SFA Grassroots Facilities and Pitch Fund. Comhairle nan Eilean Siar contributed an additional £71,000 towards the total project cost of £271,000.

Speaking at the opening Convener of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, Cllr Kenneth Macleod, said: "The Western Isles has come a long way through investment in sports facilities and continues to produce top class athletes. The restoration of the 3G pitch will assist in that ongoing development."

CNES Sports Facilities Services Manager, Tony Wade, said: "Sport and Heath are delighted that the refurbished pitch is back in operation ahead of schedule and looking amazing! The pitch is a key element of PE delivery for Nicolson Institute pupils and for the development of sport and physical activity in our community.

"The project has been a practical example of excellent partnership working between CnES and the Scottish Football Association and will be an asset for many years to come."
