First Metagama Commemoration Event

Sgoil a' Bhac, Tong School and Comhairle nan Eilean Siar's Department of Education, Skills and Children's Services are delighted to announce the first in a series of events to commemorate one hundred years since the Metagama sailed from Stornoway on the 21st of April 1923.

The first event will take place at Coll Community Centre on Tuesday the 21st of March 2023 at 7pm.  Pupils from Sgoil a' Bhac and Tong will showcase their acting, singing and musical skills in what promises to be a memorable evening.  Coinneach 'Mòr' MacIver produced the script and will also appear on stage in the role of  'seanchaidh'.  As part of the evening, Back and Tong Gaelic choirs will perform as well as local esteemed singers Margaret Stewart, Bell Ann Martin and Iain 'Costello' MacIver. Calum Martin and pupils will be showcasing psalm precenting skills which have been developed during this project.  Additional support from Neil Johnstone, fiddle tutor, and James Duncan MacKenzie, piping instructor, will also feature on the evening.

A link to Eventbrite for tickets will go live on Monday the 13th of March and the link will be shared.  Keep your eyes peeled!  The event is free to attend but a silver collection for Bethesda will be at the door.
