Community Transport under Review

As part of its current programme, the Outer Hebrides Community-Led Local Development Local Action Group (OH CLLD LAG) have asked the TAS Partnership to review community transport services in the Outer Hebrides. The LAG, made up of a cross-section of public, private and third sector stakeholders, manages the delivery of the local Community Led Vision which aims at progressing and delivering innovative and sustainable community-led projects.

The main aim of the transport review is to identify opportunities for services that can be community-led, controlled or supported, and with many years of experience in the transport sector the TAS Partnership are excellently placed to suggest and advise on new and innovative solutions. Options may include, but are in no way limited to, community minibuses, car-sharing, car clubs and organised lift-giving. Taking account of limited public sector finances and due to funding streams being increasingly difficult to access, the focus will be on achievable and practical initiatives that will bring sustainable benefits to our Islands' communities.

Islanders are now being encouraged to get involved by providing feedback on questions such as what public or community transport they use, what they use it for, how it could be improved and any constraints they face. Based on these findings, a number of suggestions and recommendations will be drawn up which will be discussed in community workshops during the last week of February. A final report is expected to be published in March.
