Severe Weather – Yellow Warning

Friday 30th September 2022

A yellow warning for wind has been issued for the Western Isles from 0800hrs today to 1500hrs. The front moves in from midnight with the rain first, Southerly winds will then strengthen with 60mph gusts forecast with the potential to reach 70mph.

In late morning winds will then shift westerly with the core winds moving to the North and strengthening with gusts up to 75mph forecast for the Northern Isles.

It will remain blustery with gust expected to continue to reach 60mph.

Travel

Please take care and drive to the conditions.  Strong Southerlys may give overtopping issues on the Braighe and in the Uists.  The public are advised to travel with care. CnES Roads and Police will be monitoring.

Advice

The public are advised to secure any loose debris.  The Comhairle would ask family, neighbours and friends living nearby to assist and support elderly and vulnerable people.
