‘Most Effective Inter-connector Within the Earliest Timescale’

Commenting on the Contract for Difference (CfD) awards and 'Pathway to 2030' publication by the Electricity System Operator, National Grid ESO, Cllr Donald Crichton, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar's Chairman of Sustainable Development, said: "It is very welcome that Stornoway Wind Farm has been awarded CfD, meaning all three island commercial developers have a CfD in place.

"The Pathway to 2030 sets out the blueprint for the electricity transmission network required to deliver the forecast growth in renewable energy across Great Britain. It is a detailed document and we will be closely analysing the implications.

"The Comhairle is now taking stock and talking to developers, SSEN and others. With all commercial developers now holding a CfD there is urgency around delivering the most effective inter-connector within the earliest timescale and we would urge the regulatory system to move with urgency to implement the inter-connector."
