Comhairle nan Eilean Siar and Elect Her will run an online workshop to inform and encourage women in the Western Isles to stand in the upcoming Local Government elections in May 2022.

The online workshop will take place at 7pm on Tuesday 18th January 2022 with representatives from Elect Her, an organisation working to motivate, support and equip women to stand for political office, present to provide advice and answer questions.

Hannah Stevens, Elect Her Director, said: "We need more women in elected office in every sphere of Government across Scotland. When women have access to political leadership there are gains for the whole of society, not just women. It is fantastic that Comhairle nan Eilean Siar is creating space for women to have conversations about what it means to stand for local Council and what support is in place if you do so. We are really happy to be partnering in this initiative."

The workshop will take place on Microsoft Teams and a link will be provided nearer the time.
