Western Isles Libraries Book Week Scotland Celebrations

Western Isles Libraries is hosting online author events over the next few weeks to celebrate Book Week Scotland 2021 (15 to 21 November).

The online events will have a climate change and awareness theme with guest authors Natalie Fée and Alastair McIntosh talking about their books, the climate and how we can play our part in mitigating climate change.

Natalie Fee is an award-winning environmentalist, author, speaker and founder of City to Sea, a UK-based organisation running campaigns to stop plastic pollution at source.  She is also the author of How to Save the World for Free (Orion, 2019), one of the books in the library services new Climate Collections which can be found in each branch.

Alastair McIntosh needs no introduction. He is a tireless writer, academic and campaigner. His latest book, Riders on the Storm: The Climate Crisis and the Survival of Being (Birlinn, 2020), explores the climate crisis and weaves together science, politics, psychology and spirituality, to offer us a way forward.

Kathleen Milne, Libraries Manager at Western Isles Libraries said: "Book Week Scotland is always a highlight of the year for us. This year is especially special with COP26 taking place and with so much focus on our climate and caring for the planet. It's a real pleasure to have two such wonderful authors and campaigners as Natalie Fee and Alastair McIntosh joining us, to help us think and talk more about the challenges facing us, as well as inspire us to do our bit."

Book Week Scotland is the national annual celebration of books and reading. The theme for Book Week Scotland 2021 is Celebration and Scottish Book Trust is marking ten fabulous and successful years of Book Week Scotland. The national charity will run free, digital events across their social media networks through their Digital Festival.

Those who want to spend the week reading will also have plenty of choice, with a free book which will be distributed to libraries and Book Week Scotland partners across Scotland in the run up to the week.

Working with a wide range of partners, Scottish Book Trust - the national charity changing lives through reading and writing - will deliver online events and activities across the country during Book Week Scotland 2021, which runs from 15 November to 21 November, linked to this year's theme of Celebration. Now in its tenth year, Book Week Scotland was initiated by the Scottish Government.
