Lionel and Shawbost Pools Update

As we work towards the reopening of our sports facilities, CnES Sport and Health section would like to update service users with the latest information.

Significant resources have been invested in both pools whilst they have been unavailable for use. This means that they will be operational much more quickly in future.

We currently have significant staffing issues across the service as a result of being unable to deliver Lifeguard training courses for over 18 months. These pressures have been increased by the recent loss of our hard working students who have returned to their studies in the last couple of weeks.

We have delivered one Lifeguard course and will be interviewing for relief staff within the next two weeks. We are holding another course within the next four weeks and have advertised for a vacant post at Lionel Pool.

There also significant operational challenges with the location of pools within schools. As soon as we are in a position to reopen the pools we will update customers.

In the longer term, Sport and Health section and local partners are looking at ways to increase community involvement in the operation of the pools with the hope that this will increase access in future.
