CNES Construction Projects

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar and its contractors working on construction projects in the Western Isles strictly follow Government and industry rules.

Since construction restarted in June 2020,  robust procedures have been in place that enables contractors to work safely and efficiently in accordance with the Construction Scotland, Construction Leadership Council and Government advice.  Travel associated with construction work is permitted and classed as essential nationally.  Scottish Government has this situation under constant review utilising prevailing health advice and construction industry feedback on the effectiveness of control measures.

The number of site operatives, travelling and accommodation patterns are kept to a minimum and stringent procedures are in place to ensure safety.

The aim is implementing safe operating procedures in line with Government guidance and there being clear and consistent messages to all subcontractors not to travel should anybody develop or have COVID-19 symptoms.

A spokesperson said: "Safety for the community and workers remains the priority at all times. Arrangements continue to be reviewed and updated in line with the latest government advice and industry best practice."
