Uist Repopulation Action Zone Draft Plan – Community Consultation

Overview

In the Outer Hebrides declining population levels mean fewer people to deliver key public services or to meet gaps in the workforce.  In addition, the lack of working age families can threaten the sustainability of essential public services like schools which risks families moving elsewhere.

Uist Repopulation Action Zone Draft Plan (345.5kB)  has been developed by the Population Working Group.  To deliver sustainable outcomes at a local level a menu of tools and a targeted inter-agency policy response is needed.  Critical areas have been identified and interventions proposed in a plan.

Why We Are Consulting

The Population Working Group is keen to understand what the community think of Uist Repopulation Action Zone Draft Plan and their priorities.  We are now consulting the community and engaging with businesses and stakeholders to gather views and identify how to deliver actions needed to boost migration to Uist of skilled and talented people.

What Happens Next

The Community Survey   will gather views while stakeholder views will be gathered. These will be complemented by public events held in February.  The results will then be passed to the Working Group and they will use the feedback to refine delivery.
