Government Consultation on Free Bus Travel for Young People

Earlier this year, the Scottish Government announced plans for a new travel concession scheme which will provide free bus travel for young people under the age of 19 and is planned to come into effect in late 2021.

"Free bus travel will help young people under the age of 19 to access education, employment and leisure," said Michael Matheson, Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Infrastructure and Connectivity.

"I'm confident that it will support the independence of young people and encourage a greater, long term shift to more sustainable travel."

Transport Scotland are currently running an online consultation to find the best ways to implement this new scheme so that it suits young people's needs.

Whether it's travelling by bus to college, taking part in activities outwith school (when restrictions ease and clubs resume) or meeting up with friends, Transport Scotland wants to hear from young people, parents, carers and anyone who works with young people.

To complete the short survey, click  here before the closing date of Monday 7th December and help this new scheme to get young people moving.
