Launch of new Heritage Services website

Today sees the launch of an exciting new website   for Comhairle nan Eilean Siar's Heritage Service.
The new site brings together, in a highly engaging way, information about Museum nan Eilean, Tasglann nan Eilean and the Western Isles Archaeology services and venues in a single online platform. It is hoped that this will enable people to easily access information about a range of subjects including:

  • Visitor information for Museum nan Eilean Stornoway, Museum nan Eilean Lionacleit and Tasglann nan Eilean (the archive service);
  • Collections information for people wishing to explore or use the archive and museum collections for research;
  • 'Discover' articles on a range of themes likely to be of interest, including news and updates about recent projects;
  • Community heritage section with information about each of comann eachdraidh (which can be viewed as a list or on a map);
  • Events section with information about what people can see or do at our venues;
  • The Services available from the museum, archive and archaeology services

The website aims to be fully bilingual and has been created thanks to funding from Museums Galleries Scotland and Bòrd na Gàidhlig.

Colin George Morrison, Team Leader, Heritage & Culture: 'The new website provides comprehensive information about the Comhairle's heritage services in a way which we hope people will find interesting, exciting and easy to use. We hope it will encourage visitors and residents alike to visit our venues to explore all that is on offer and reveal the wide range of potential research uses of our collections. The plan is to add new content regularly to keep it dynamic so that there's always something to discover, and we hope people will dip into it often to find something of interest. We also plan to expand some of the sections in future. Therefore, watch this space!'
