Significant Impact on Care at Home Service

Like many Health and Social Care Partnerships, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar's Care at Home Service has been significantly impacted upon by the recent COVID rates in the Western Isles.

The Stornoway and Greater Broadbay area has been particularly adversely affected. A significant number of staff have been required to isolate in keeping with the national guidance. As a result of this, the Care at Home Service, working in partnership with their Social Work colleagues are reviewing care plans and asking families, friends and neighbours, where possible to assume some caring responsibilities until such time as staff are able to return to work.

Jack Libby, Chief Social Work Officer/Head of Community Care, said: "We appreciate how upsetting and challenging this can be for service users and their families and the service will resume normal business as soon as possible.

"We would also like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank those family members, friends and neighbours who have already stepped forward and offered to lend a hand. This makes a significant difference to the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in our community. It is one of the strengths of our community that at times of need such as this, we come together, supporting one another."
