Dun Eisdean Care Home

NHS Western Isles and Comhairle nan Eilean Siar have identified a number of cases of COVID-19 in the Dun Eisdean Care Home in Stornoway. Test and Protect is underway.

The outbreak is currently affecting seven individuals (both staff and residents). Residents' families have been informed of the current situation and will be kept up to date on an ongoing basis.  Non-essential visiting at the care home has been suspended for a short period until further notice, due to the number of staff being required to self-isolate.

Teams from NHS Western Isles and Comhairle nan Eilean Siar are supporting the care home with their arrangements for infection prevention and control to help prevent spread of the infection.

A number of individuals have been identified as close contacts of positive cases and have been required to self-isolate to help prevent further spread of the virus.

If you have been required to self-isolate, please ensure you do not leave your home because you have or might have COVID-19, and couple potentially pass it on to others.

  • Do not go to work, school, shops or any other public places
  • Do not use public transport
  • Do not go out to get food and medicine - order it online or ask someone to bring it to your home
  • Do not have visitors in your home
  • Do not go out to exercise

Children must not attend nursery or school
THE ONLY TIME YOU SHOULD LEAVE YOUR HOME IS TO TAKE A COVID-19 TEST OR IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION.

  • We would remind everyone across our communities to continue to test themselves with Lateral Flow Device (LFD) self-testing kits if they are asymptomatic.

However, should you develop symptoms, regardless of how mild, you should immediately self-isolate and book a PCR test by contacting 01851 601151 or email: wi.covid19queries@nhs.scot

Even if you tested negative through an LFD test, if you develop symptoms, it is vital that you self-isolate and arrange a PCR.

The phoneline will be staffed from 9am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday with an answering machine available outwith those hours.

The vast majority of us are well aware of the widely publicised three main symptoms of COVID-19 - a high temperature, persistent

cough and loss of or change in taste or sense of smell.

However, it has become clear that there is more to COVID than cough and fever.

Key symptoms to look out for are:

  • A new cough
  • A fever (including high temperature or chills/shivers)
  • Loss of smell
  • Unexplained fatigue
  • Sore throat
  • Unexplained headache
  • Diarrhoea

REMEMBER...

  • Avoid crowded places if you can. If you do attend a large event, minimise your contact with others at the event and also afterwards.
  • Keep mixing with others to a minimum, and meet outdoors where possible.
  • In you meet others indoors, keep the area well ventilated (open windows).
  • Continue to wear face coverings in public places - it's still the law.
  • Keep cleaning your hands regularly.
  • Remember to cough or sneeze into the crook of your elbow, or into a tissue, and dispose of the tissue immediately.
