Cllr Charlie Nicolson

Councillor Charlie Nicolson today announced that he is stepping down from the Comhairle (for personal reasons). At a meeting of the full council, Comhairle Convener, Cllr Norman Macdonald, said: 

"Charlie studied at Knock Primary from 1960 to 1962, The Nicolson Institute from 1969 to 1974 before heading to Aberdeen College to complete a Diploma in Youth and Community. He also completed a course through Northern College, based at Lews Castle College, in Guidance and Counselling. Charlie worked as an officer for the Comhairle in the Community, Learning and Development Department from 1979 in various roles, including Full service Co-ordinator for the New Community Schools Project (Lewis and Harris). He then came onto the Comhairle as a Member for the Steòrnabhagh a Deas Ward in 2007 and has served the community diligently over the years, working with many different organisations including Lewis and Harris Youth Clubs Association, Youth Safety Initiative, the YM and Bridge Centre, The Stornoway Trust and The Stornoway Amenity Trust to name but a few. He has also been a Member of the Pension Board and the Joint Police Board.

 

"On a personal note, I have worked with Charlie as an officer, and over recent years as a Member, and I have valued his contributions to the debate in this chamber, particularly his work on behalf of young people. On behalf of the whole Comhairle, I would like to wish Charlie all the very best for the future."
