Lochs Road Cycleway

On Monday the 8th of March, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar appointed contractor Breedon Hebrides are due to commence works on a new cycle refuge lane on the A859 Lochs road between the B897 Grimshader Junction and the entrance to the Creed Park Industrial Estate.

These works will be funded from Transport Scotland's annual "Cycling, Walking & Safer Routes" grant which, as the name suggests, is targeted specifically at improvements to pedestrian and cyclist safety on the local road network. The grant cannot be used for general road maintenance. Construction of the refuge lane will involve widening and surfacing of the existing northbound verge to provide a safer route for cyclists to negotiate the tight bends and blind summit on this heavily trafficked section of road.

Works are expected to take around 4 weeks and should be completed during the current lockdown period and reduced traffic levels. Traffic lights will be in operation and motorists are advised to allow extra time for their journey and take notice of all traffic management in place for the works. We ask that motorists help keep the site workforce safe, by proceeding through the works area with care.
