Get Involved in Apprenticeship Week

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar is asking the community to get involved in this year's Apprenticeship Week to help celebrate past achievement and get behind local apprenticeship opportunities.

The theme of Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2021 (1-5 March) is business backing talent, celebrating the role of young apprentices in the economy and the employers that back and support them.

Apprenticeships can help provide the skills a business needs to adapt, sustain and strengthen. There are various funding avenues available to support employers in taking on apprentices.

For senior phase secondary pupils Foundation Apprenticeships have been developed to help young people gain valuable, real work experience across work-based learning while they are still in school.

From Foundation Apprenticeships through to Graduate Apprenticeships the Comhairle currently offers support in 44 different areas through 21 different funds. Employers or young people who would like more information on how to get involved should email: apprenticeships@cne-siar.gov.uk

Director of Education,Skills and Children's Services, Willie Macdonald said:

"Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2021 gives an opportunity to share and celebrate the diversity that makes work-based learning so beneficial for individuals, employers and the local economy.

"Now more than ever it is important that young people, family members and prospective employers are aware of the apprenticeship opportunities available in the Western Isles. Young people bring fresh ideas, unique skill sets and a willingness to adapt that will be invaluable to employers in this phase of economic recovery."
