Consultation on Outer Hebrides Local Development Plan: Proposed Plan and Associated Documents

As part of the preparation for a new Local Development Plan (LDP) to guide development and land use over the next 10-20 years, we have produced the following documents for public consultation:

The Proposed Plan represents our settled view and forms our approach to the development of land in the Outer Hebrides and takes accounts of views made on the Main Issues Report and extensive engagement.

The Proposed Plan and associated documents area available to view on line or during normal opening times at the following deposit locations

  • All main Comhairle Offices at Stornoway, Tarbert, Balivanich, Castlebay
  • Local Libraries at Stornoway, Sir E Scott School, Sgoil Lionacleit, Sgoil Dhalabroig, Castlebay School
  • Community Locations at Spors Nis, Uig Community Shop, Taigh Chearsabhagh and Claddach Kirkibost Centre

Your views are invited by 5 pm Friday 10th March 2017. Completed Comments Forms should be emailed to or alternatively posted to Development Department, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, Sandwick Road, Stornoway, Isle of Lewis, HS1 2BW.


Following the consultation period, the Proposed Plan will be sent to Scottish Ministers, and along with a summary of the unresolved issues, will be passed for independent examination by a Scottish Government appointed person. The appointed person will look at any outstanding objections and make recommendations based on their findings. These will be binding on the Comhairle unless the recommendations do not meet certain requirements.
