  • Slàinte Mhath!

    Comhairle nan Eilean Siar is encouraging everyone in the Western Isles to develop a healthy and active lifestyle.The 'Slàinte Mhath' ('Good Health') initiative is a Council funded-scheme designed to encourage the use of Sports Centres from the Butt to Barra, which means that a family pays £25 a month for unlimited use of all sport centre facilities whilst it costs £18.75 for individuals to take part in the scheme.  There are also concessionary rates for those on benefits.


    Recent samples taken at Loch Branahuie, near Stornoway have indicated the presence of blue-green algae. The bloom has the potential to discharge onto Melbost Beach. Dog walkers using the beach should take care that their dogs do not come into contact with the algal scum. Image © superfoodliving.

    We are carrying out a survey to gauge parent's interest in using a holiday club over the Summer holidays which would be based in Stornoway.

  • New £17 million CashBack Fund opens

    Justice Secretary Michael Matheson announced the opening of the application process for the £17 million funding as part of the next phase of CashBack for Communities which will run from April 2017 until March 2020 - with an application deadline of 30th June, 2016.     Comhairle nan Eilean Siar was today presented with a defibrillator by Cllr Angus Morrison, a Volunteer Trainer and local Co-ordinator with the Lucky2BHere charity.
