An on-line public exhibition for the proposed Barra and Vatersay Community Campus (BVCC) has been opened.

The project team has set up a website to provide background information and the developing design strategy for the proposal. The website also provides opportunities for the public to comment, which will be used to help guide and inform the design process.

The website can be accessed via this link: https://bvcc.scot/

To allow as many people as possible to have a say, a series of sessions are being held on Thursday 10th December between 4pm and 8pm, where there will be a short presentation and the design team will be available to answer questions. The public can register for these sessions via the exhibition website or by this link:  https://bvcc-preapplication-consultation.eventbrite.co.uk/

The exhibition website includes a section on frequently asked questions, the design proposals and information boards, which can be downloaded.

Ann McCarlie, the project director for hub North Scotland, who are the development partner for the campus with NHS Western Isles, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, and the Hebridean Housing Partnership, said the exhibition was a key part of the proposals.

She explained: "This exhibition and the public sessions would normally be held 'on the ground' at a suitable venue but, unfortunately, the Covid-19 situation has meant we have had to come up with an alternative method.

"By going on-line, we are giving people the opportunity to look at the information available when it best suits them. They can then register for the public sessions and put forward their comments and questions to the design team."

Ann added: "The design for the new campus is still in its formative stages and this public consultation is an essential part of the planning process which allows the community to contribute to that and help shape the final result."

Anyone who cannot get on-line access can telephone 01851 822656 for printed materials.
