  • Trading Standards Warning

    Trading Standards are warning residents about a current telephone scam in the islands - particularly in Benbecula and Uist. During the call, consumers are asked for various details to verify their identity and are then promised a visit from a solicitor with a cheque for mis-sold PPI (Payment protection insurance) but, they are first required to buy gift cards such as iTunes cards before their cheque is delivered.   • Comhairle Welcomes Calls for Further Gaelic recognition in the Western Isles

    Comhairle nan Eilean Siar has welcomed comments made at Friday evening's Royal National Mòd 2016 official opening event by President of An Comunn Gaidhealach, John MacLeod, calling for further preservation of the language and its culture in the Western Isles.

     
  • Population Decline

    Comhairle nan Eilean Siar has called for more action at a national level to reverse the projected population decline in the Outer Hebrides in years to come. The 2014 based projections predict a severe decline in the population of the Outer Hebrides of 13.7%. This is more severe  than the previous projections which indicated a decrease of 11.3%. The population of the Outer Hebrides is projected to decrease from 27,250 in 2014 to 23,515 in 2039. 

     
  • Outer Hebrides Creative & Cultural Industries Strategy

    Much of the activity highlighted in the Creative & Cultural Industries Strategy is ongoing and the document still bears considerable relevance, however as the defined Strategy period of 2012 - 15 has expired, it is now appropriate to revisit, review and refresh its content for the coming three year period, 2017 to 2020.
